Austin Stone
Early life:
Austin Stone (1904-1979) was born in Chelsea, London, to Arthur William Stone & Evelyn Le Mottee (of Guernsey). In 1915 his uncle Edward Le Mottee (a Major in the Gloucester regiment) died in the Battle of Loos in France and after loosing both parents during the 1917/18 ‘Spanish Flue’ epidemic, he was separated from his sister (who was sent to live with the famous ‘Architect’ Lutyens family, friends of the Stone’s) and sent to boarding school - which he hated - until July of 1923. During school holidays he lived with his uncle Douglas Balfour Le Mottee (Rear Admiral RN who fought at the Battle of Jutland in 1916). His maternal grandfather John Edward Le Mottee (Colonel in the Royal Guernsey Militia -ADC to King Edward VII in 1903) died in 1919 and his grandmother Laura Amelia - granddaughter of Frederick Corbin Lukis died a couple of years later.

It is no wonder my father had no interest in family history and was not able to hand down many details to his children.
However, it is an interesting fact that, without his knowledge, he had many ancestors with literary talent:
1) His father Arthur William Stone (1866-1917) was an book editor and agent as depicted in 1911 census
