ABOUT THE BOOK

MISSING, MURDER SUSPECTED
A TRUE CRIME TRILOGY
By Austin Stone (Edited by Ed Stone)

Missing, Murder Suspected is a crime novel based around a trilogy of true crime events.

The first, “Love and Hate amongst the Chickens” was publicly known as ‘The Chicken Run Murder‘ of 1924, where John Norman Thorne murdered his fianc’e Elsie Cameron.

The second, “A House of Horror” was also based on the true crime known as ‘The Buck Ruxton Jig-Saw Murders‘ of 1935. This crime involved the double murders by Dr. Buck Ruxton of his wife Isabella and her nursemaid Mary Rogerson.

The third, “Four Sacks for a Shroud” is about the ‘Luton Sack Murder‘ of 1943, where, during WW2, a London fireman, Bertie Manton was driven into a killing rage by his wife Rene.

“Although at times this may read as fiction, only a minimum of ‘author’s license‘ is involved, every fact being authentic, every conversation based on the evidence of witnesses. In this way it is hoped that the reader will be able to appreciate fully the tension and drama, as well as the workings of providence, which often conspire to bring tragedy into the lives of ordinary people.” — Austin Stone

Words from the Editor

I would like to provide my readers with the reasons for getting the manuscript of ‘Missing, Murder Suspected” transcribed/edited & self published posthumously in my father’s memory as follows:-

Having not known any of my past ancestors, in 2014 I was working (via Ancestry website) on my family history book and had joined my local genealogy group, in order to get some ideas of how it all worked!

35 years ago, my father ‘Austin’ Stone (1904-1979) had left a box full of old documents, which I inherited from my late brother in 2003. Until searching for my dad’s birth certificate, I had not seriously searched the box for details! Family Tree details can be found here at Ancestry.co.uk.

In the box of documents I found, not only the book manuscript but several of my father’s Radio Plays that he had written for the BBC, back in the 1950’s! One of my genealogy colleagues asked if I would be interested in working with the local Players Guild to perform a play at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. I thought this would be a lot of fun and would also keep my father’s literary work profiled!

So, in January 2019 we decided to produce “An Affair of Honour”. With media support from the Chilliwack Progress newspaper and local radio station 89.5 The Drive, we were amazed to have a ‘full house’ of almost 150 attendees! As a result of this success, it was planned to re-enact and  produce 4 more Radio Plays over the next 2 years. On January 11th. 2020 we performed “A Pearl in the Hand” to over 180 attendees!
